Dear Editors,
Bike Aways and Bike Asia presents
The First Yangshuo Bike Festival
A Celebration of Bicycles and Eco-tourism Ideals
October 31 to November 2, 2014
China will have its back-road cycling and camping festival this Fall!
Join the Yangshuo Bike Festival, a unique festival-on-wheels through the pristine natural landscape of southern China’s Guangxi Province.
Imagine a leisurely ride through little-known villages set amongst stunning karst landscape, the inspiration behind famous Chinese poems and traditional ink paintings.
Starting in Xing Ping on the famous Li River we will create a 100-rider-long cycling dragon as we travel unexplored back roads and farmers’ pathways to the Yangshuo Bike Festival campground.
Cyclists will spend a night amidst the karsts with a roaring bonfire barbecue, music by local artists and one-of-a-kind events.
A second day of riding brings the dragon-on-wheels into Yangshuo where the celebrations continue with bike-themed films, exchange forums with cycle and travel experts and a spot of karaoke.
A celebration of cycling and eco-tourism ideals, the Yangshuo Bike Festival will show the world that sustainability is a possible and fun future reality for China’s tourism industry.
Is this ride for you?
The festival is open to anyone who can ride a bike including families with kids. Distances are approximately 30 km per day and mostly flat. There will be optional extensions for the hardcore with opportunities for mountain bike riders who actually like mountains.
Support
The route will be clearly marked by signposts. Maps will be supplied and local guides will be there to follow if you choose. Ride at your own pace, take the full day or arrive early and enjoy the camping and festival grounds – but a non-handheld journey will be the spirit of the festival.
Cost: Our early bird special of RMB 1990 will last until October 1. The fee includes festival entry and access to all festival events, 1 night hotel accommodation, 1 night camping (BYO tent), five meals, water refills, 2 days bike hire and a supported ride.
Getting there and Away
Guilin is the closest airport. It is then a two-hour transfer by taxi to Xing Ping
Average speed riders will be able to arrive in Yangshuo Town by 2.30 pm on the Sunday ride, allowing time for transfers (1.5 hours) to Guilin airport / train station.
