Xing Ping is famous for the dramatic limestone karsts crowding over the Li River in what the local people have dubbed the nine horses fresco . It is one of the famous scenes in China – etched onto the 20 RMB note – and a highlight of the cruise trip down the Li river from Yangshuo. Xing Ping was a sleepy riverside town, and is still rustic and cute. Now is the time to see it.
A new bullet train linking Guangzhou to Guiyang via xing Ping promises to change this town which is why we have selected to start our ride here.
Firstly – people who can should see it before the madness begins.
Secondly, Xing Ping could be the new Yangshuo, as it is equally beautiful, but will be easier to get to with bullet trains departing Guangzhou (Canton) speeding holiday makers into the limestone wonderland in just two hours. This is great for People living also in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The connection for people flying in to Guilin ( planes are becoming so old school) will be under 30 minutes. It currently takes an hour and a half to drive the 67 km from Guilin to Yangshuo.
Thirdly- with all these promised tourists, we want to claim inspire space for culture of touring the karsts by bicycle to continue. Buses are kind’ve wrecking the irdes around Yangshuo and we are hoping our bikedragon snaking its way through the small farmers back roads will be an inspiration to keep dedicated cycle ways like the Guangdong government has done with its Greenways Scheme.

And it should work even better in coming years as the train comes on line. There is a big hotel being built right in the middle of the old street too. It looks like it’s going to be pretty flash so in the future there will be some upmarket accommodation options for those that want it and some great spaces available if we can get them on board too.
